  • Carpenter Helper – Laborer

    Carpenter Helper – Laborer

    Watertown, NY

    The successful applicant will have a basic knowledge of commercial construction trades, practices, procedures and will be familiar with the tools, equipment and materials necessary to assist the Foreman, Site Superintendents and/or Carpenters in carrying out their duties and other projects as assigned.

    Job requires ability to climb ladders, crawl for distances, work in confined areas, lift and manipulate heavy objects.  Candidate must possess physical strength and agility needed to perform strenuous manual labor

    Be able to stand for up to 8-10 hours in a given day.

    Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. unassisted to your waist.

    Have the ability to step up a 19-inch rise without assistance.

    Must have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions and organize assigned tasks for completion alone or with help

    Working conditions include restricted movement, dirty environment, extreme temperatures, working on buildings and/or scaffolding at heights over 15 feet above the ground and climbing ladders for heights up to 30 feet

    High school education or equivalent

    Valid drivers license required.

    • Operating woodworking machines and tools such as power saws, drills, planers
    • General knowledge of Building Codes
    • At least three (3) years experience as a Carpenter is preferred
    • Education and experience: High school education or equivalent
    • Valid drivers license required

    Assistant Project Manager

    Job Summary

    Purcell Construction is seeking an Assistant Project Manager under the direct supervision of Project Manager for projects in Northern New York.   Work will include contract administration, daily reports, correspondence, quality control inspections, coordination of subcontractors, some estimating, and job supervision.  This is an excellent starting management position with opportunity for an individual to further advance in the construction field.

    Responsibilities

    • • Work directly with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent to support in any administrative functions.
    • • Assist in soliciting subcontractors and suppliers for bids, review and negotiate proposals, and make recommendations for award to vendors and subcontractors.
    • • Assist in administering the Quality Control Plan on Construction Projects.
    • • Review and track submittals and other necessary documentation through the course of construction.
    • • Assist in coordination and scheduling subcontractor’s work as required.
    • • Interface with Project Manager, Project Owners, Designers, Superintendents, Subcontractors and Suppliers, and any others as part of the project team to meet the expectations of the Client and deliver a successful building project.

     

    Qualifications

    • • A degree in Construction Management or related field; or a combination of equivalent training and experience.
    • • Be experienced, organized and team-oriented.
    • • Be knowledgeable in the construction industry and have an understanding of reading technical plans and specifications.
    • • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with all levels of employees, management and outside parties such as Owners, Architects, Engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and co-workers.
    • • Be experienced with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat – and have the capacity to learn/adapt to other construction industry programs (BIM, scheduling, project management, and estimating software).

    Commercial Site Superintendent

    Job Summary

    The Construction Site Superintendent will manage and coordinate all on-site activities during the construction phase of a project. This involves working closely with the Construction Project Manager, Subcontractors, Quality Control Manager and Safety Director.

    Responsibilities

    • • Serve as the overall on-site supervisor for all aspects of construction including, but not limited to, mobilizing, layout and scheduling of work, coordinating field labor resources, monitoring subcontractors and their work, and coordinating material suppliers ensuring timely deliveries.
    • • Work in conjunction with the Contractor’s Quality Control Manager to ensure compliance with technical specifications, contract and quality requirements.
    • • Responsible for on-site production and scheduling of work to ensure project meets schedule.
    • • Serve as the sole point of contact for the Project Manager on all matters related to on-site construction activities.
    • • Corridination of all job meetings and responsibility for monitoring and enforcing safety compliance on the project. Ensure cleanliness and safety of project site at all times.
    • • Deliver projects that exemplify high standards of quality and exceptional value while conforming to project design criteria and product specifications.
    • • Schedule and/or coordinate all trade work and deliveries to the site.
    • • Ensure construction is performed in accordance with quality standards, contract requirements and schedule.
    • • Review and submit weekly time sheets for employees on site.
    • • Schedule and monitor subcontractor completion of all punch list work.
    • • Ensure all inspections and occupancy permits are completed.

    Requirements/Qualifications

    • • Construction knowledge must include a minimum of ten (10) years of on-site supervisory construction experience on commercial construction projects ranging in size from $5 million to $50 million dollars. (Please no residential or high-end home superintendents.)
    • • Must be able to work within a team structure and be prepared to take a leadership role
    • • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam
    • • Must be able to read and interpret a construction project schedule and assist the Project Manager in updating the schedule regularly.
    • • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision and manage multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines on a routine basis.
    • • Must be detailed, assertive, team-oriented, and results-driven.
    • • Must maintain professionalism in all day to day interactions, particularly when interfacing with key project stakeholders, Owners, and designers.
    • • Must have OSHA 30-Hour Construction Training Certification.
    • • Must have First Aid and CPR Certification.
    • • Valid driver’s license required.
