Mahone Ave Barracks

Fort Lee, VA

This five-story building provides housing for 300 soldiers and 450 soldiers at surge capacity, for a total building square footage of 103,254. The project also includes a 1,000 square foot lawn equipment building, an 18,500 square foot physical training pit, a 3,500 square foot covered assembly area, and a basketball court. The project included the demolition of two existing buildings, existing utilities, and existing roadways and sidewalks. Construction also included new utility service, and improvements to roadways and the storm water system. The site and facility designs comply with Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Standards.

Each module houses two soldiers, and contains closet space and a shared bathroom. Modules are designed to accommodate three soldiers at surge capacity. The Company Operations Facility (COF) portion of the facility accommodates administrative, supply, and storage functions associated with personnel housed in the barracks. This central facility serves as the primary staging, training, and deployment center for company personnel and their individualized gear. Multi-purpose classrooms located on the first floor of the building are provided with operable partitions so that the space can be divided into three separate classrooms, or be used as one single classroom. Day rooms, laundry rooms, and computer learning rooms are located on each floor in the central core and are easily accessible from the each housing wing.
